It is with great sadness that I bring the news that Todd’s good friend and fellow musician from the very early days, Steve Cooper passed on February 18, 2015 of an apparent heart attack in his apartment on Oakland Ave. I believe Todd and Steve were about the same age so that would make Steve about 62 at the time of his passing.
Steve was the drummer in one of Todd’s earliest bands “The Post Literate Generation” along with Bill Webb (keyboards) and Bill Unger (guitar).
Steve became an auto mechanic and spent most of his working career at East Side Automotive on Oakland Ave. and lived in an apartment right next door to where he worked. Steve lived just a couple blocks from Todd’s house on Frederick, and they kept up their friendship with each other all through the years.
At about the time Todd was diagnosed with cancer, Steve’s mother passed away. Steve inherited his mother’s estate and at that time he decided to retire. Steve was an only child and never married.
Steve was a kind hearted man that was always willing to help you when you needed a hand with something. He was an especially good friend to Todd and Paula while Todd was waging his fight against brain cancer. And after Todd passed on, Steve was always there to help Paula when she needed a favor from Steve.
We will miss you Steve! I know you are with my brother Todd now.
